photoshoot!!

Sorry I haven't been blogging lately, you know the usual: school, work and volunteering while in the midst of finding the right career choice. Anyways, this past Tuesday I met up with my close friend Sammie, who just so happens to be a photographer. She wanted me to be a model so she can help create her portfolio (her photos are amazing by the way!) The concept she chose for me was dope-chic mixed with some ruggedness so we both met up to take some shots on Whyte Ave. All I can say was that the photo shoot was a hit! She captured some great shots and I thought I would share some with you, plus give you the details of the outfit I that I wore. See for yourself:

For this one in particular, I wanted to incorporate some color which is obviously found in the jumper and mix it with some rugged features such as the leather jacket and boyfriend jeans. A total of three pairs of shoes were used in this photo shoot: Black combat boots, strappy heels and a pair of Retro Jordan 4's to add a dope feel.

turnt up to the max.

Post-midterm haul

On the last day of midterms, I thought I'd celebrate my freedom by visiting a few shops in the mall on the way back from school, plus it was the start of reading week and... it was Valentine's Day! After I picked up my boyfriend's gift, I stopped into Zara only to find that they were having a huge clearance sale. BINGO! Whenever I shop at Zara, I try to keep my budget below $100 or else all hell will break loose. I went straight to the clearance section to find a cute pair of grey harem pants on sale for just $15.99 which is a total snag! A pair of cute boyfriend capris that roll up at the bottom for $25.50, a sheer print top for just $19.99 and a padded sweatshirt for umm $59.90 so obviously I am over budget. After an hour of indecisiveness, I walked out with the harem pants and the boyfriend jeans. I do plan on coming back for the padded sweatshirt and the sheer top or just order them online.

The problem with these finds was that they were too cute to pass up. I first tried on the top with the jeans and it was a great combination because the top added a wild side with the print. The great part about boyfriend jeans is that they add a touch of ruggedness to any outfit just by the patches and holes on the thigh. You can pair them with any colored blazer, even a printed one if you want to show off your wild side.

Boyfriend jeans for the win!

The best pieces were the harem pants and the padded sweatshirt. I absolutely adored the sweatshirt because it reminded me of an Alexander Wang sweater because of the printed padded detail on the front. The problem was that it was too expensive so I had to pass. I purchased the harem pants because they were unique with the baggy fit below the crotch area. They fit perfectly so I thought why not pair them with the padded sweatshirt. Let's just say that I nearly spent half an hour gazing at how beautiful this outfit looked. It gave off a rugged high fashion mixed with street fashion look.  It looked like something Cassie Ventura or even A$AP Rocky would wear to a fashion show because that is how dope it looked. I paired the two pieces with combat boots that I wore that same day and it completed the look head -to-toe.  Have a see for yourself below:

Dress it up or dress it down.

Once again, I found myself looking through my closet for more inspiration and also considering the fact that it was Fashion Week in New York so in a way, I wanted to feel connected somehow. Anyways, I found some cute pieces. One of my favorite pieces that I put together was a skull blouse paired with colored denim, a jean jacket, a cute purse with some brown booties depicted below. The great part about this outfit was that you could either dress it up or dress it down in terms of the type of shoe. For a night out with girlfriends, choose a shoe that is not too short and for a casual day for running errands, why not do it in style. Trade those booties in for a pair of cute sneakers, my sneaker of choice is a pair of Chuck Taylor's. They're cute, comfy and chic, plus they give the finishing touch to any outfit.

Opinions please!

So last week there I was in my room skimming through my closet and a feeling of inspiration came over me. This year, I've seen a lot of celebrities rock the plaid shirt, but instead of wearing it, they tie the shirt around their waist to even out the outfit. Celebrities such as Kanye West and Cassie (depicted below) have made this creation into an evolving trend so I thought why not? The key to pulling off this look is to tie the shirt just blow your hips so it levels evens out the total outfit itself making the proportions equal, similar to what Cassie did below. Pair this shirt with leather pants, leather/denim jacket and a sick pair of sneaker wedges or heels and get ready to turn heads.

Model/Singer Cassie Ventura looking fierce in a flannel shirt paired with a denim jacket, leather vest and pants, topped off with a pair of Louboutin's.

Here is my creation of the trend:
(I need your opinions on the fringe bag, is it too much? If so, what color bag should I go with?)
